The Crown of Thorns quilt block pattern is a classic design that can be made with just a few simple steps. It is a great way to showcase different fabrics and colors and can be used in many different quilt projects. Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to make a Crown of Thorns quilt block pattern.
- Fabric in at least two colors or prints
- Rotary cutter or scissors
- Sewing machine and thread
Step 1: Cut the Fabric Start by cutting your fabric into the following pieces:
- Four 3.5-inch squares in one color or print
- Four 3.5-inch squares in a second color or print
- Four 3.5-inch squares in a third color or print
Step 2: Make Half-Square Triangles To make half-square triangles, take one of the squares in the first color or print and one of the squares in the second color or print. Place them right sides together and draw a diagonal line from one corner to the other. Sew a 1/4 inch seam on each side of the drawn line. Cut along the drawn line to create two half-square triangle units. Repeat this step with the remaining squares in the first and second colors.
Step 3: Assemble the Center of the Block Arrange the half-square triangle units and the squares in the third color in a pinwheel design. Sew the units together to create the center of the block.
Step 4: Add the Outer Units Take the remaining squares in the third color and sew them to the half-square triangle units in the first and second colors, creating a square unit. Make sure that the third color squares are in opposite corners of the unit. Repeat this step with the remaining units.
Step 5: Assemble the Block Arrange the center unit and the four square units in a four-patch design. Sew the units together to create the Crown of Thorns block.
Step 6: Finish Press your finished block and trim any uneven edges to make it square. Repeat these steps to create as many Crown of Thorns blocks as you need for your project.
Congratulations, you have completed a Crown of Thorns quilt block pattern! Now you can use this block in your quilt project, whether you want to make a whole quilt using this block or combine it with other block patterns. Enjoy your new creation!
