🍇 Ingredients

  • 1 ripe cantaloupe, peeled, seeded, and cubed
  • 3 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 3 cups cold water
  • Optional: juice of ½ lime, fresh mint for garnish

👨‍🍳 Directions

  1. 1
Peel, seed, and cube the cantaloupe.
  2. 2
Place cantaloupe chunks, sugar, and ½ cup of the cold water into a blender. Blend until completely smooth.
  3. 3
Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher, pressing to extract all the juice. Discard pulp.
  4. 4
Stir in remaining 2½ cups of cold water. Add lime juice if using. Taste and adjust sweetness.
  5. 5
Refrigerate until cold. Serve over ice, garnished with fresh mint. Enjoy!
💡 Tip: Choose a cantaloupe that smells sweet and fragrant at the stem end — that’s the best sign of ripeness and maximum flavor!

📚 History

Cantaloupe is believed to have originated in South Asia and was cultivated in ancient Egypt and Rome. It was named after Cantalupo, a papal estate near Rome where it was grown in the 15th century. Juice extraction has been practiced for thousands of years — ancient Romans recorded fruit and vegetable recipes in the cookbook “Apicius.” The industrialization of the 18th and 19th centuries enabled mass juice production, making fruit juices widely accessible.
