Guacamole

How to make guacamole

🥑 Ingredients

  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2–3 small Roma tomatoes, diced
  • 1–2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1–2 jalapeño or serrano peppers, finely minced
  • Juice of 1–2 limes
  • Fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: red pepper flakes, diced red bell pepper, or diced mango

👨‍🍳 Directions

  1. 1
Cut avocados in half lengthwise and remove the pits. Scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl.
  2. 2
Use a fork to mash the avocado to your desired level of smoothness — chunky or silky, your choice!
  3. 3
Add finely diced onion, minced garlic, and minced jalapeño or serrano peppers. Stir to combine.
  4. 4
Gently fold in diced tomatoes and chopped cilantro.
  5. 5
Squeeze lime juice over the mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. 6
Taste and adjust seasoning. Add any optional ingredients. Serve immediately with tortilla chips or as a topping!
💡 Tip: Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole before refrigerating — this prevents browning by blocking air contact!

🌿 Health Benefits

Avocados are one of the most nutrient-dense foods available, rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, fiber, potassium, and vitamins K, C, B5, and B6. The healthy fats in avocado help your body absorb fat-soluble vitamins from other foods. Lime juice adds vitamin C and antioxidants. Guacamole is a naturally nutritious, whole-food dip.

📚 History

Guacamole dates back to the ancient Aztec civilization in Mexico. The name comes from the Nahuatl words “âhuacatl” (avocado) and “molli” (sauce). The Aztecs prized avocados for their rich flavor and nutritional value. Spanish conquistadors encountered guacamole in the 16th century and later introduced ingredients like garlic and cilantro.
