The Wild Goose Chase quilt block is a classic pattern that involves piecing triangles together to create a geometric design. Here are the steps to sew a Wild Goose Chase quilt block:
-
Choose your fabric: Select the fabrics you want to use for your block. The Wild Goose Chase block typically features a main color and a contrasting color. You will need fabric for the large triangles, small triangles, and background.
-
Cut your fabric: Cut your fabric into the following sizes:
- Large triangles: cut four 4 7/8 inch squares, and then cut them in half diagonally to create eight triangles.
- Small triangles: cut eight 3 inch squares, and then cut them in half diagonally to create sixteen triangles.
- Background: cut one 5 1/4 inch square and four 2 7/8 inch squares, and then cut them in half diagonally to create eight triangles.
-
Arrange the triangles: Lay out the triangles in the pattern you want for your block. The large triangles will form the "goose" shape, and the small triangles will form the "chase" shape.
-
Sew the triangles together: Starting with the small triangles, sew them together in pairs to create squares. Then sew the squares together to create the "chase" shape. Repeat this process with the large triangles to create the "goose" shape.
-
Sew the shapes together: With right sides together, sew the "chase" and "goose" shapes together along the long edge. Press the seam allowance toward the "goose" shape.
-
Add the background triangles: Sew the background triangles to the corners of the block, with right sides together. Press the seam allowance toward the background fabric.
-
Finish the block: Trim the block to 10 1/2 inches square, and then repeat the process to create as many blocks as you need for your quilt.
With these steps, you should be able to create a beautiful Wild Goose Chase quilt block that you can use in a variety of quilting projects.
