Sewing a lattice square quilt block requires some basic sewing skills and a sewing machine. Here are the steps to sew a lattice square quilt block:
Materials you will need:
- Fabric for the lattice strips and the background fabric
- Ruler
- Rotary cutter or scissors
- Sewing machine
- Thread
- Iron and ironing board
Steps:
- Cut the fabric into strips of 1.5 inches wide for the lattice strips and 2.5 inches wide for the background fabric. Cut the strips to the length you need for your desired block size.
- Take two strips of lattice fabric and sew them together along the long edge with a quarter-inch seam allowance. Press the seam allowance to one side.
- Repeat step 2 until you have enough lattice strips to cover the width of your block.
- Cut the lattice strips into sections that are the same length as your background fabric strips.
- Sew the lattice strips and background fabric strips together along the long edge with a quarter-inch seam allowance, alternating the lattice and background strips.
- Press the seam allowances to one side.
- Cut the strip set into sections that are the same width as your block.
- Arrange the sections into the lattice square pattern.
- Sew the sections together along the long edge with a quarter-inch seam allowance, matching the seams.
- Press the seam allowances to one side.
- Trim the edges of the block to your desired size, making sure that the corners are square and the edges are straight.
Congratulations! You have successfully sewn a lattice square quilt block. Repeat these steps to create more blocks and assemble them into a quilt top.
